Changes to Salesforce Social Studio’s Facebook listening functionality

Salesforce have announced forthcoming changes to Social Studio’s Facebook listening functionality. This will impact how you currently use Social Studio’s Engage and Analyze functions.

Facebook recently announced a change which affects all social listening tools, as part of a privacy initiative. From October 16, 2017, it will no longer be possible for social listening tools to listen to posts on Facebook pages – unless you own the page.

What does this mean? For the time being, Facebook posts on pages you don’t own will not be available in Social Studio Analyze reports. For your owned Facebook pages, you’ll continue to be able to use Social Studio Publish and Engage to manage and engage with posts and messages.

Historical data which has been gathered prior to October 16 will remain available, but any new posts from that date onwards won’t be gathered.

What’s next? We believe that Facebook are developing a new insights tool which will provide some functionality for understanding Facebook audiences through social listening tools. We’ll post on our blog as we learn more.

Engage

Play GIFs and Videos

GIFs and videos can now be played in the Engage console, without leaving to visit the post natively. This brings efficiency to better understanding the context of conversations.

Increased Language Support

Arabic, Hebrew and Persian have been added to the languages you can view conversations and respond to customers in. Social Studio automatically detects the language and supports right-to-left script.

This functionality only applies to engagement and does not support listen or publish.

Analyze

Pinterest Dashboard

Now you can better gauge a customer’s propensity to buy with Pinterest analytics in Dashboards on desktop and mobile.

Easily view and track volume for your pins containing links, photos, and videos, plus comments to better understand engagement. Gauge the overall sentiment and view top words for your pins and comments.

Publish

Admin Override for Post Approvals

Workspace Admins, Owners, and Organisation Super Users can now override and approve or reject posts pending approval.

This is great for teams with long or complex approval rules, this enhancement helps accelerate approvals for time sensitive posts. If a posts is stuck because an approver is on leave, or has left the company, an authorised user can approve posts on their behalf.

Report of Keyword Groups in Active Topic Profiles

You can now export and import Topic Profile keyword groups. This is great for sharing information with your team or client and storing keywords from Topic Profiles you’re making major changes to, or would like to remove from Social Studio.

Social Studio Mobile

Fresh new Look for Engage

This release gives the Engage feed within the Social Studio mobile app a fresh new look to improve navigation so you can easily manage your social properties.

Updated font and text colours provide greater clarity when reviewing content. Reorganised Workflow attributes allow you to quickly see the actions taken on a post. New icons for author labels, post labels, notes, and sentiment for better identification have been added.

This feature applies to iOS only, Android version coming soon.

Influencer Score for Twitter Posts

Better understand and prioritise posts based on customer information. Influence data now displays on posts in Social Studio Mobile.

Use an Influencer score with a scale of 100 to understand customer impacts based on reach and post frequency. View the influencer score next to the users Twitter handle in the Engage feed. Tap the user avatar in the Engage feed or inspector to navigate to the author profile where you may also view the influencer score.

Video Support for Published Posts

Understanding the content published by your brand is extremely important. It is especially important when you have to approve a post to be published. Publish now supports videos, allowing you to identify a post with a video in the calendar. Tap the video in the calendar to play it in the Publish inspector.

This release adds this feature to Android. iOS can already use this functionality.

Get the full picture of your team’s sales performance and encourage a healthy competition amongst team members. Boost employee motivation by ranking sales performance of your team. Understand how your team is performing with total amount closed. View how many deals each member of your team is closing and share strategies with each other to be more productive to close more deals.

This feature requires a Sales Cloud subscription.

Customise Themes to Match Your Brand

Enhance your Command Center themes even further by tailoring them to better reflect your brand.

When creating new themes, upload the background image with .png, .jpeg or .gif file formats up to 5MB in size. Choose how the image is sized to your theme with scaled to fit or original size options. Once you create your theme, see the background image preview and logo for your theme for easy identification.

View As and Permissions Changes

This release more closely aligns Social Automation permissions with Social Studio so that you can get value out of our powerful rules engine more quickly. Super users can view rules and data sources that other super users created by using the View As feature. Quickly understand what other rules and data sources have been set up across your organisation.

Drag-and-Drop Code Snippets in Layout View

You can now drag-and-drop snippets from the Content tab into your template or email. Previously, you could only insert snippets through editing the HTML.

Salesforce Data Extensions and Audiences in Dynamic Content Block

If you're using Marketing Cloud Connect or Audience Builder, you can now use these data sets to create Dynamic Content.

URL Source for Content Blocks

Content Builder now lets you use an external URL for images, rather than having to import images into the Content Library. Additionally, the image won't be imported into the Content Library when using this method.

Subject and Preheader Moved to Top of the Preview Canvas

To align with email and test workflows, the Subject and Preheader fields have been moved to the top of the Preview Canvas, instead of being outside the editor.

Asset Selection for AMPScript Content Builder Functions

You no longer need to know the CustomerKey or ID of assets when using the AMPScript ContentBlockByKey, ContentBlockByID, ContentImageByKey, and ContentImageByID functions. The new look up feature shows the CustomerKey or ID to speed up your output.

Folder Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs will help you navigate through Content Builder, with the folder path appearing in the grid. Clicking on the folders will let you navigate directly to that folder.

Copy Location

You can now copy the location of a piece of content in Content Builder to share it with others or to add a folder path reference to an AMPscript function.

Performance Enhancements and Bug Fixes

Several bug fixes have been applied that improve the mobile responsiveness of templates on Android devices, fixes to the update template process, where content boxes were lost and updates to the grid performance and resolving save issues.

URL EXPIRATION AND REDIRECTS

With this release, you'll be able to mange when links in email sends expire and where they redirect to after the expiration date.

Performance Enhancements and Bug Fixes

EMAIL ACTIONS VISIBLE IN CONTENT BUILDER THUMBNAIL VIEW

From the Content Builder grid, you're now able to select all email-related actions. These include Edit, Properties, Send, Preview and Test, Content Detective, Validate, Inbox Preview, Share, Copy Location, Move, Duplicate and Delete.

TEST SEND INCREASED USABILITY

Adding multiple test addresses to the emails in Content Builder has been improved. You just need to seperate the email addresses with a comma to send tests to multiple recipients. To change the addresses, just delete them and in the right one.

SEND FLOW USER ASSISTANCE

A change to the send flow User Interface reminds you that changes to the subject and pre-header only affect the specific email send.

TRACKING ENHANCEMENTS IN CLICK ACTIVITY PAGE

A better representation of the live email is presented in the Click Activity Tracking report. This update removes coding, such as Guide Template Language and AMPscript, from the view and displays the default content blocks. This removes confusion over what was delivered to the inbox and makes it easier to develop insights around click activity.

MANAGE SCHEDULED CONTENT BUILDER SENDS FROM THE TRACKING TAB

Previously, there was no way to access pending sends for emails built in the Content Builder. The Tracking Tab now provides this feature where you will be able to view, pause, resume or cancel scheduled jobs sent through Content Builder.

CAMPAIGNS

A bug fix has been applied that resolves an issue where the incorrect data was being pulled in multi-campaign email tracking summary report, an issue where users couldn't delete a reviewer from a campaign and an issue where the timezone is incorrect for campaigns created from Calendar menus.

EMAIL CLASSIC APPROVALS

There have been bug fixes applied that fix a conflict with the Timezone set in Marketing Cloud, the Audit History being 6 hours out of time and the Classic Approvals Tab not appearing or showing an incorrect approval status.

New Features

IMPORT ACTIVITY CONFIGURATION ENHANCEMENTS

User feedback indicated that Import Activities were the most widely used function in Automation Studio, but proved difficult to setup. A new Import Activity Wizard has been developed to make the process clearer and faster to complete.

IMPORT STEP IN AUTOMATION STUDIO CONFIGURATION WIZARD

The Import Wizard includes Auto-inserted AMPscript variables used for dynamic filenaming and displays an example filename, to show the expected format of that filename, based on file naming patterns.

STEP-LEVEL ACTIVITY DESTINATION CONTENTION PREVENTION

Previously, it was possible to add two activities, such as an import and a query, that would target the same data extension or destination, producing unexpected outcomes. With this release, when a Query, Import or Filter Activity is added to a step, and shares a destination with another step, an option is presented to add the activity to a new, subsequent step.

VIEW ACTIVITY DETAILS FROM AUTOMATION OVERVIEW

If a step errors, you'll be able to see the error details in Automation Studio.  You'll also be able to click into the Activity Wizard to troubleshoot the issue quickly.

AUTOMATION WORKFLOW ENHANCED WITH LIGHTNING

The Lightning look and feel has been applied to Automation Studio, providing consistency across the platform.

SALESFORCE DATA EXTENSIONS SUPPORTED IN QUERY AND IMPORT ACTIVITIES

A Salesforce Data Extension can now be set as the destination for Import and Query Activities through Automation Studio.

SALESFORCE IMPORTS ARE VIEW-ONLY FROM ACTIVITIES SECTION

Salesforce Imports are now view-only through Automation Studio to prevent editing Salesforce Imports and affecting the configuration. If Salesforce Imports are required, this can be completed through Synchronised Data Sources.

Journey Builder

New Features

UNDO AND REDO FEATURE ON JOURNEY BUILDER CANVAS

You'll be able to build out Journeys faster with the undo and redo features. You can undo and redo up to 50 actions, provided the actions remain on the Journey screen. Undo and Redo can be applied to:

  • - Drag activities and entry sources onto canvas
  • - Configure activities and entry sources
  • - Move activities on canvas
  • - Deleting activities and entry sources
  • - Updating journey name and description
  • - Updating journey settings

IMPROVED ENTRY SOURCE CONFIGURATION

New Entry Source tiles have been added:

  • - API Event Tile - replaces the function of the Contact Event
  • - Salesforce Data Event - is now a standalone data source and no longer requires the selection of the Event entry source. This includes Salesforce Campaign and Salesforce Data Events
  • - Contact Event - will be retired this year. This function will be replaced with Audiences for scheduled entries or the API for unscheduled entries

EMAIL ACTIVITY HOVER STATISTICS

Hovering over an email will now display statistics around the email activity. You can click the statistics in the box to view more data in a new screen, including the contact key, email address and time stamps for send activity.

HEALTH STATISTICS PANEL

The Health Statistics Panel gives you greater insight into how your Journey is running. The panel shows:

  • - Goals - shows the goal description and the goal attainment percentage
  • - Journey Counts - the number of contacts currently in the Journey
  • - Alerts - Count of all contacts past due a wait activity

This data updates once every sixty minutes.

ADDITIONAL ENTRY RESULTS DATA VISIBILITY

More data has been added to the Entry Results page, including:

  • - Schedule details in Next Run and Last Run
  • - Data Extension Used
  • - Contacts Pending Evaluation - the number of records entering the Journey in the next run
  • - Queue Processing - the number of records being processed to enter the journey. This is currently in Beta

ENHANCED AUDIENCE EVALUATION OPTIONS

The Journey Builder Wizard now lets you evaluate all records in the source data extension, or you can evaluate the new records in the source for each scheduled run.

If you're using Rule Manager for business rules, improvements have been made to the minimise the response time for a recommendation to be returned.

PREDICTIVE WEB AND EMAIL: TRIGGERED CATALOG NOTIFICATIONS

When using automatic catalog uploads, success and failure notifications are sent immediately after processing. Manually uploaded catalogs will no longer see a prompt to sign up for notifications.

A new editor checks your message for GSM characters, identifying which messages need to be split into 70 or 160 maximum character messages. If you're using AMPscript, you can expand the screen size to improve your view.

PREVIEW UPDATE

Enhancements to the Preview show the message as it appears including the From Name, message splitting and concatenation.

MMS EDITOR AND PREVIEW UPDATES

The Lock Screen has been removed and MMS will now display as it would to the recipient.

Enhancements have been made to make MobilePush easier to navigate for localised languages, such as German and Japanese.

Mobile Journey Builder for Apps SDK

ANDROID - VERSION 4.9.0

This release sees a number of improvements for Android, with a change to how the Device ID is handled to ensure it is unique, updated encryption SDK to resolve issues with Android Marshmallow and improved SDK Initialisation Time.

IOS - VERSION 4.8.0

Changes for iOS have been implemented including CloudPage inbox data sources ensuring that the inbox refreshes for the lifetime of the data source, correcting an issue that generated warnings in Swift projects around nullability annotations, update to push tokens to ensure that new or refreshed tokens are sent back to Marketing Cloud and an improvement to the SDK behaviour across multiple connections concurrently, improving thread safety.

ALL APP CENTER API INTEGRATIONS AND PACKAGES NOW VIEWABLE INSIDE OF INSTALLED PACKAGES

Administrators can now see which API Integrations and Packages they have installed across Business Units in Installed Packages. You may need to switch on access to Installed Packages under Administration to see it, but once you do, the name and description for each API Integration and  Package will appear.

A PERMISSION NOW GOVERNS THE CREATION OF API INTEGRATIONS, PACKAGES, OR MOBILEPUSH APPS VIA APP CENTER

To create new API Integrations, Packages or MobilePush Apps, a user will need to have the Installed Packages under Administration applied. Additionally, a user with the Administrator MobilePush permission under General can create MobilePush apps.

API INTEGRATIONS OR PACKAGES CREATED WITHIN YOUR ORGANISATION CAN NOW BE DELETED OR UNINSTALLED VIA INSTALLED PACKAGES

Administrators that have access across all Business Units can now uninstall and delete API Integrations and Packages, even from other sources such as HubExchange. The user will need to have Administer permission for Installed Packages under Administration applied.

DEEP LINKING SUPPORT FOR IOS

Recipients on iOS devices can be linked directly into an Application via a URL. To support this, Marketing Cloud creates a link between the app and the domain used, directing the recipient to the most appropriate place in the app.

This is available only for iOS and requires Marketing Cloud Sender Authentication Package, SSL Certificate for click domain and changes to the iOS application.

Use a drop-down to set the max width of a CloudPage, preventing the content skewing on large monitors. The default width is 1280px.

The April release for Social Studio is now live. Here’s what you can expect to see.

Social Studio

New Features

Emoji Support across Social Studio

You can now use Emoji across all of Social Studio! In Publish, you’ll be able search and select Emoji to talk to your audience, while Engage now displays Emoji properly and lets you select Emoji to use in your responses.

But the most exciting use for Emoji is in Analyse, where you can now use it to measure sentiment, improving the accuracy of the sentiment model.

This makes us so 😀 we want to 💃🏽 🕺🏻!

Facebook Inbox Message Conversation

This new feature lets you see Facebook Inbox messages in Engage, where you can view the full message thread as well as assign, label and prioritise the messages. This lets you offer the same level of service to Inbox message as other social posts.

YouTube Engagement

You can now manage your YouTube community in Social Studio! In Engage, you can use all the usual workflows, such as assign, label and prioritise on comments left on your channel.

New Insights!

Radian6 users will remember the Free Insights and these now in Social Studio. These will help you refine the insights that you develop in Workbenches:

Hashtags Used: Understand which hashtags are use by your audience and the context in which they use them

Top Usernames Mentioned: Shows the top 50 Twitter handles that are dominating the conversation.

Top Domains Mentioned: Shows web properties that are providing the key content to drive conversations

Top Sources: Illustrates the leading providers of content across Usernames and Domains.

Custom Dashboards & New Metrics

Dashboards are now completely customisable! You can build a Dashboard from a template, or start out with a blank canvas. Either way, you’ll be able to build out a Dashboard that reflects your reporting needs in no time.

As well as that that, there are 13 new metrics that you can explore to compare your growth, engagement and performance.

Transfer Ownership of Topic Profiles

Finally, an end to chasing up Topic Profile owners when you need to make a change! This feature lets an Admin user change who owns the Topic Profile, so no time or effort is lost.

Also, Workspace Admins will be able to modify Topic Profiles to suit their Workspace’s needs instead of having to create multiple Topic Profiles that listens for similar content.

Lock Down Select Set of Labels

Community Managers rejoice! You can now lock down the label sets so that other users can’t add new labels. This will speed up Engage solution implementations as well as improve the accuracy of your Dashboard & Workbench reports.

Enhancements & Bug Fixes

You’ll notice the Engage columns will load faster and the in-reply users handle is now excluded from the character count on Tweets. You can now export out a list of labels to better manage the most relevant tags as well as see when your social accounts were last authorised on Social Studio.

Command Centre

Web Canvas Visualisation

You can now iFrame in web page content to provide more context or more analysis to Command Centre. Include reports from Salesforce CRM or display your e-store, provided the page supports iFrames, you’ll be able to present it in Command Centre.

Retweet Filtering

On screens such as the Feed Wall, you can toggle Retweet Filtering, to stop the same Tweet appearing through retweets. This displays more content to build up a better picture of social listening.

Following on from the announcement a couple of weeks ago about some Radian6 features being discontinued, we’ve seen the announcement that the Radian6 platform is set to be discontinued.

This means that as of March 2018, you wan’t be able to login to Radian6 to create Topic Profiles or to monitor social conversations.

The good news is that you’ll be able to use Social Studio to continue to Publish, Engage and Analyse social conversations.

Radian6 Features End of Life Announcement

Radian6 Engagement Console, Summary Dashboard and Mobile App won’t be availble from June 2017.

Today (February 22nd, 2017), we noticed this announcement on the Salesforce Knowledge Base.

Essentially, it means that Radian6’s Engagement Console, Summary Dashboard and Mobile App will not be available from June this year. If you’re currently using any of these features of Radian6, you’ll need to move across to Social Studio.

We’ve set up a micro-site to help you migrate across from Radian6 to Social Studio and we’ll continue to update this as we get news from Salesforce.

Salesforce have just announced the next round of releases for Social products. Our Social Analysts are geeking out in excitement and can’t wait to get their hands on them! This is what they’re most looking out for.

Social Studio

Emoji

When using Emoji in Publish, you can now search for the Emoji that you want to use. There are over one thousand to choose from, including multi-ethnic and flag emoji. Just keep in mind, emoji does appear differently across operating systems and browsers.

Engage

For Twitter, In-Reply to information is displayed with the post, giving you much more context around the Tweet.

The Image Lightbox has been improved, displaying images at a higher resolution

Bit.ly

You can soon use Bit.ly in Engage to shorten URLS and track metrics through bitly.com! You’ll need to shorten the URL on a post by post basis as this isn’t done by default. We’re eagerly awaiting to see if this can be done in an Engage Macro…

Analyse

You’ll be able to segment a Dashboard with Boolean based keywords, improving the Dashboard context and speed of analysis.

Something we’re really excited about is macros in Analyse Dashboards! This lets you apply workflows directly in the Dashboard, producing more accurate reports and faster responses.

Mixed Dashboards give you a view of your entire social footprint by monitoring a number of social networks or Topic Profiles. Date ranges have also been expanded, letting you zero in on what really matters.

More analysis can be done with Advanced Card Configuration, letting you apply filters to individual cards in a Dashboard, as well as renaming and resizing cards to make them easier to present.

Focused Exports

Exporting data has been overhauled too. Focusing on an individual card on a Dashboard or Workbench, you’ll be able to distinguish between retweets and quote tweets and see when the post was first assigned.

Admin

Admins can now change the owner of a page. So, if someone leaves the business, the Admin can easily make this change without having to chase anyone and suffer downtime on the channel. Also, page owners can set Agencies to manage only selected pages, as well as redistribute pages to other page admins. We’re forever chasing page owners, so this change makes us very happy!

Command Centre

The new Facebook Ads Visualisation displays advertising campaign metics such as total spend, actions, clicks and impressions, letting you continuously assess Facebook ads and modify them. You can also view ads across brands or products lines.

Facebook Reviews, including comments and replies can now be visualised and organised to focus on detractors or promoters.

Social Hub

Facebook Review scores can now trigger an action! You can apply a Workflow depending on the score, so low scores could be sent to Service Cloud and High Scores could have an author label applied.
